The physical and emotional impact is different based on each individual’s perception of life events and conflicts. Managing stress requires different means, from changing the way we see ourselves in the world, to employing coping and mindfulness techniques. We will discuss the sources and impact of emotional trauma, and introduce some stress-management skills.

Acupuncture and Mental Health with Dr. Jingduan Yang

April 11 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm |
Acupuncture is one of the modalities of Chinese medicine, which is a complete system that recognizes various levels of human existence, including the mental dimension. Mental and physical functions are two sides of the same coin since the brain is part of each of the body’s energy meridians. According to Chinese medicine, any energetic imbalance will have ramifications for both physical and mental health. Acupuncture thus is an essential tool in the regulation of mood and mental acuity.

Tom McElroy “Spiritual Discovery: How you can you better the world”

April 22 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm |

The First Curch of Christ, Scientist is hosting this event.

Tom McElroy has always loved meeting new people and learning fresh and inspiring ideas. Through his study of Christian Science, he found that a better understanding of God helps him connect with all kinds of people and to appreciate and enjoy the many diverse expressions of divine Life and Love which fill the globe.

His interest in different cultures, people, and ideas that led him to study philosophy at university. During his university years, he participated in a few study-abroad programs which took him to France, Belize, Vietnam, China, and Tibet. He has been to every continent but Antarctica. During these travels he experienced many proofs of God’s ever-present care for His global family.

After graduating from university, he obtained a position as the senior loan officer in charge of a mortgage company’s most active branch. At the same time, he worked with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department as a volunteer chaplain in men’s, women’s, and youth correctional facilities, giving Christian Science services and one-on-one interviews. These experiences gave him many opportunities to rely on and prove the power of God’s laws of goodness and harmony, which govern all creation and bring immeasurable benefits to all mankind, even in the most adverse situations. He now devotes himself to the full-time public healing ministry of Christian Science.

While serving on the Board of Lectureship, He has spoken at probation facilities, universities, public schools, churches, and for public service groups — like those serving homeless and at-risk youth — as well as in other general public venues. He lectures in both English and French.

Generation Found Movie and Panel Discussion

April 23 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm |

Generation Found Movie Screening and Panel Discussion
Sponsored by The Caron Foundation

GENERATION FOUND is a powerful story about one community coming together to ignite a youth addiction recovery revolution in their hometown. Devastated by an epidemic of addiction, Houston faced the reality of burying and locking up its young people at an alarming rate. And so in one of the largest cities in America, visionary counselors, law school dropouts, aspiring rock musicians, retired football players, oil industry executives, and church leaders came together to build the world’s largest peer-driven youth and family recovery community; providing a real and tested long-term alternative to the “War on Drugs.” It is not only a deeply personal story but one with real-world utility for communities struggling with addiction worldwide.
